Spicrawl vs Geonode: which web scraping API fits your project?
Choose Spicrawl for more output formats and larger batches. Choose Geonode for its proxy pools, site crawling and a flat price per request.
Geonode is best known for proxies: residential, ISP and datacenter pools sold by the gigabyte. It also sells a Scraper API that returns a page as Markdown or HTML. Spicrawl is only the scraping API, with more output formats, sessions and browser actions. Here is a fair side-by-side, including where Geonode is the better choice.

Switching from Geonode
Both take a URL and an output format in one POST request. The main difference is the response: Geonode returns a JSON object with the page under data, while Spicrawl returns the Markdown itself as the response body.
curl -X POST "https://scraper.geonode.io/v1/extract" \ -H "X-Api-Key: $GEONODE_SCRAPER_API_KEY" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{ "url": "https://example.com/blog/post", "formats": ["markdown"], "render_js": false, "processing_mode": "sync" }'# Response: JSON, with the page under data.markdowncurl -X POST https://api.spicrawl.com/v1/scrape \ -H "Authorization: Bearer spicrawl_live_…" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{ "url": "https://example.com/blog/post", "response_format": "markdown" }'# Response: the Markdown itselfSpicrawl vs Geonode: common questions
Is Spicrawl a good Geonode alternative?
It is if you want more than Markdown and HTML: structured data, screenshots, PDFs, sessions for logged-in pages and browser actions. If you need Geonode’s proxy pools, site crawling or a flat price per request, Geonode is the better fit.
Is Spicrawl cheaper than Geonode?
Spicrawl is free while it is in beta, and its prices after the beta have not been announced, so a fair price comparison is not possible yet. Geonode’s paid plans start at $3.90 a month for 10,000 requests, and it charges one flat price per request however the page is rendered.
Does Geonode charge for failed requests?
No. Geonode does not charge for failed extraction requests, and neither does Spicrawl. Spicrawl also does not charge for a page that answers with a status such as 403, or for results served from its cache.
Can Spicrawl replace Geonode’s proxies?
Not yet. Spicrawl lets you bring your own proxy with no surcharge, but its own managed proxy pool is coming soon and is not available during the beta. If you need proxies for other tools, Geonode’s proxy products are a different kind of service.
How do I switch from Geonode to Spicrawl?
Send a POST to https://api.spicrawl.com/v1/scrape with your Spicrawl API key and a JSON body with the url and response_format. Use response_format markdown in place of formats, and js_render true in place of render_js. Spicrawl returns the page itself as the response body, not inside a JSON object.
